Exploring The Top Travel Blogs

I love looking around the travel blogosphere to see what’s new. This week I’ve decided to look on the Alltop travel site, of which the Taking Off Travel Blog is a proud member. Here’s a flavor of what you can find. The Conde Nast Daily Traveler has a post on cheap chic hotels, otherwise known as ‘properties that have grown up in the last few years and are aimed at people traveling on a budget but who don’t want to compromise on style’. Meanwhile, the Intelligent Travel blog from National Geographic is in a festive mood, highlighting some Mardi Gras moments.

I’ve been following the Travel Rants blog on Twitter, and Darren has always got something interesting to say. This week, he’s discussing the treatment of disabled travelers. If you’re in the mood for a rant, then weigh in on the issue of security fees at Rick Seaney’s blog.

In the humor category, check out today’s sign spotting post on Vagabondish – just goes to show how differently we can react to images. For other great images see Sunset at Cape Kiwanda on My Itchy Travel Feet, San Diego photos on Travelzones, and choose a travel video for your iPod as FlyAwayCafe gives the nod to Delta Airlines’ collection.

There are also plenty of tips and tricks. Tripso offers ten trips for traveling with children, Delicious Baby discusses family travel insurance and  Have Kids Will Travel brings traveling with large families to life:

I remember many a family road trip sandwiched between siblings across the width of a motel bed. Sometimes we tried the alternating head-to-toe configuration, but after a few unconscious kicks one or two of us would inevitably crawl in with Mom and Dad midway through the night

Finally, there are a number of posts focusing on Twitter, including a tip on airport power from Travellious and a discussion of Twitter and travel on Nomadic Matt. By far the most interesting of this crop for me, though, was my discovery of the twitchhiker, who is traveling from Newcastle, UK as far as he can get in a month, relying on the kindness of Twitter users. Follow the story on his blog or on Twitter. Good luck, Paul!

Has anyone heard of or will be attending the NATJA annual conference in Cleveland from June 2nd-5th?
