The William P Hobby Airport (HOU) is a great place for a layover, as it is located only seven miles southeast of Houston’s main business district. Hobby Airport, which mainly handles domestic and private flights to more than 32 destinations, started out as a private landing field in 1927, but by 1940 it had been surpassed by a new and larger terminal. Hobby is the city’s second largest airport, taking nearly nine million passengers in 2008. It has scored well in customer satisfaction surveys. Follow the link for more facts about Hobby.

Amenities

Hobby has one main terminal which has been expanded and improved. It now offers all the services you would expect from a modern airport including: WiFi internet, more than 12 food and beverage vendors, several newsstands, eight car rental companies, currency exchange, ADA amenities and much more.

Parking

As well as shuttles and taxis, passengers can also take advantage of the offsite airport parking facilities. These include Fasttrack Hobby Airport Parking, Ampco Houston Airport Parking and Preflight Hobby Airport Parking. All offer assistance with your luggage, parking rewards and secure parking, with Preflight also offering car care and valet parking.

Things To Do

While you’re at the airport, have a look at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum, which has been designated a historic aerospace site. It’s a great chance to get a first hand look at art deco airport design. The terminal is being restored, but there’s still a lot to see.
