Traveling The Blogosphere – November 2009

If you were keeping track, you will have noticed that I skipped last month, mostly because I was dealing with the aftermath of recent trips. This month, though, I’ve got some great posts lined up that should provide plenty of reading material for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. To get things started, have a look at this great video on world air traffic, which I saw on the Matador Network.

Lessons On Location Independence

Lea Woodward gets some lessons from her daughter in 5 Things Our Four Month Old Could Teach You About What It Takes To Become Location Independent. It contains gems such as:

By treating new skills development & learning as a game rather than a serious “must do” to cross off your list, you’re likely to create a far more fun and enriching experience

Nomadic Matt reflects on the experience of being back home, highlighting the enjoyment both of exploring the new and experiencing the familiar.

Sharing Experiences

JetSetCitizen John Bardos hosts this month’s Digital Nomad Blog Carnival, with an impressive lineup of posts, including Travel Blogging: Where’s the Money Really At? and How to Go from 9-5 on Friday to Aussie Bum by Monday, two of my favorites from this edition.

The Sharing Travel Experiences blog, which we reviewed last week, has two posts I really enjoyed. Looking Through the Hole in the Donut features the travel experiences of Barbara Weibel, and also looks at being Location Independent in Grenada, a place of which I have fond memories.

Tips And Tricks

In the tips category, there’s Travel for Free 50 Different Ways on the Travel Answerman blog, How to survive as a travelling vegetarian on the Fluent in 3 Months blog, and 10 Things We Learned Before Traveling from the PlanetD. Meanwhile Chris outlines 10 Things I dislike about long term travel (I’m with Chris on No 9.)

More Travel Bloggers To Follow

Corbett Barr gives a boost to the feed reader with 44 Creative and Adventurous Bloggers You Should Know. This is not just a list, but gives Corbett’s reasons why these bloggers are great reads. Check out the list to see who “is on a collision course with his ideal lifestyle” and who “is obsessed with helping people create a lifestyle of complete freedom”. You can even follow the whole group by subscribing to a special Twitter list.

Food For Thought

And finally, it’s always good to think about wider issues around travel, which is why I liked this Vagabondish post by Amy Baker on How Technology Is Indelibly Changing the Ways in Which We Travel. Enjoy – and Happy Thanksgiving!
