Traveling The Blogosphere – April 2010
I always love it when this time rolls around – time to give the nod to some of the great posts I’ve read around the blogosphere in the past month. Our last edition was in February, so it’s time for a new crop of must-reads.
Ten Most Impressive Railway Stations on Open Travel – “these train stations will surprise you with not only stunning architecture and modern design but also with some little extras: a jungle, a champagne bar or a beach”
4 Things to do in Los Angeles That Have Nothing To Do with Hollywood on the Sharing Travel Experience blog (one of my favorite travel sites, I have to say). Andy finds some unique things to do, avoiding the “total turnoff” of the “endless concrete highways and the extravagant show of wealth”.
How Lifestyle Design Could Make You Really Unhappy – 5 Ways to Design a Happier Life is another great post from NuNomad (another of my favorite blogs). How do you know that you’re doing the right thing? As Carmen points out: “understanding your own needs is key in creating a design that you’ll be happy with in the long term. And doing that is not easy. ”
Ever wanted to school your kids on the move – permanently? Then you’ll enjoy this great post from the ubiquitous Soultravelers3: Long Term Family Travel = Homeschool Roadschool World School. This post gives the family’s views on education and shows how they have done it. Here’s their reasoning for handling it in the way that they have:
We wanted to do our serious, extended educational travel at an age when our child would consciously remember it forever…where it would always be a vivid part of her. Our extended travel is focused primarily on her education, like life as a world field trip, so for our purposes, it did not make sense to do extended travel if she did not remember it and learn/experience in very concrete/deep ways.
Jaunted’s Jennifer Kester shares The World’s Top Five Destinations for Ecotourism – love the photo of the rhino. They’re not all as exotic as you might think. Brazil rubs shoulders with Portland, Oregon in this introductory post.
There are some places where you should think before you speak, as an interesting article on MSNBC points out. If you’ve ever wondered which topics to blab on and which to avoid like the plague, this is one place to find out.
Finally, I leave you with food for thought on traveling Europe by train, freaky museums and – the question of the day, for me at least, How Did I Ever Get so Addicted to this Damn Laptop? Enjoy!

Wow – some great reads. Love the train station one. And thanks for the mention on our article about LA.

Thanks, Andy – some of those stations really are amazing. I think a beach is a big draw (but then, I would, wouldn’t I?)

You always have lots of great posts, Jeanne, but this particular one really summed up your philosophy.
