Friday Five – 1 April 2011
It’s time for another edition of Friday Five, where I share some of the interesting travel stuff I’ve found recently. This week, there’s a news focus.
1. In Travel editors discuss consumers and changing travel patterns, Travel Weekly publishes a chat with some interesting comments about travel issues, including the fact that luxury hotels don’t seem to have caught on to the free Wi-Fi trend that midrange hotels are using. I don’t know about you, but I’d certainly like to see free Wi-Fi at some of those pricey hotels – after all, they’re making more than enough on the room, without charging $10 or more a day.
2. “Secret” List of World’s Best Airports Revealed – on Fox News came the report that there were only 2 US airports among the top 100 - one at No. 9 and the other at No. 99. Unsurprisingly, Singapore’s Changi airport came out at the head of the list.
3. EasyJet Chief Targets Air France, BA Business Passengers to Raise Profit – this story’s about a low cost airline making inroads into business travel. Flexible tickets and cheap prices can make for a potent combination in this economy.
4. 10 easy rules for travelling - published in the Toronto Sun, this article had me at the first point: “In some countries, toilet paper is a privilege, not a right”. The rest of the rules are worth reading – and check out rule 7 on traveling with your BlackBerry – or not!
5. Travel in 2020: Holidays on the moon and a Channel Tunnel under the Atlantic? – this article in the Daily Mail looks at the future of travel – and it could be higher or lower than we think!
Enjoy!
