Inside Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport
Today it’s time for another post in our series profiling our airport parking locations. Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport is the eighth busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic and the busiest airport in Texas. In 2011, it handled 57.8 million passengers, of whom 5.5 million were international. The airport has 7 runways, 5 terminals, 155 gates and covers 155 destinations via 20 passenger airlines. According to the airport’s own site, from DFW you can get to every major continental US state within four hours.
An Airport City
The second largest airport in the US (the largest is Denver International), DFW Airport has its own public services, post office and zip code, making it more like a city than a regular airport. An airport to serve the Dallas and Fort Worth areas was a long time in coming, as it took some time for authorities to agree a location. Eventually, though, construction began in 1969 and was completed in 1973. The airport is currently undergoing an expansion to upgrade and renovated terminals A, B, C and E. Terminal D was opened in 2005 along with the Skylink people mover system. The renovation project is scheduled to run till 2017.
Tech Friendly Airport
Some aspects of the airport are ultra-modern, though. DFW was recently ranked America’s top tech-friendly airport by PC World. That’s because of a high number of internet kiosks, USB ports, charging stations and electrical outlets, as well as good Wi-Fi and cell service.
Other important services include two airport hotels, the Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency, and a large selection of shops. The airport also has a notable public art program, on view in international Terminal D. There are business services, children’s play areas and a range of personal services at different locations in the airport. An interactive map is available on the website. Our DFW airport parking is worth a look, too.
DFW Activities
If you’re looking for things to do in Dallas, we’ve listed a few in Layover In Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Cowgirls And Log Cabins. Other events are available in the Yelp Dallas listing.
