Beauty is not a word that often comes to mind when you think of airports, but Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is an exception. The main terminal was designed by Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen, and it’s commonly thought to give a suggestion of flight, especially with its graceful curves.

Though the terminal has been extended since its original construction, it remains an attractive regional landmark. Named after President Eisenhower’s Secretary of State, John F. Dulles, IAD airport serves the Baltimore-Washington-Northern Virginia area. It carried 23.2 million passengers in 2011, of whom 6.4 million were international. Read more »
